Spaghetti Bolognese Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 pound (500g) ground beef
  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
  • 2 cans (14 oz each) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 pound (450g) spaghetti
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Sauté Vegetables: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, grated carrot, and chopped celery. Sauté until the vegetables are softened.
  2. Brown Ground Beef: Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
  3. Add Wine and Tomatoes: Pour in red wine (if using) and let it simmer for a few minutes. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.
  4. Simmer: Reduce heat to low, cover, and let the sauce simmer for at least 1 hour. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. If the sauce gets too thick, you can add a little water.
  5. Finish the Sauce: Pour in the whole milk and simmer for an additional 15-20 minutes. Adjust seasoning if needed.
  6. Cook Spaghetti: Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and toss with a bit of olive oil to prevent sticking.
  7. Serve: Spoon the Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil or parsley.
